Southside Bank is a Texas-based bank founded in 1960 with a growing presence across the state. While the bank had an established identity, it lacked a structured creative system and consistent visual direction. Working closely with the internal marketing team, I developed distinct creative frameworks for both the retail and commercial divisions, creating a dual-system approach that allowed each to speak to different audiences while remaining connected under a cohesive brand architecture. The retail system was designed to feel more approachable and engaging for a younger demographic, particularly in metro areas, while the commercial division adopted a more refined and modern visual direction aimed at business and professional audiences. The resulting creative direction established a foundation for each division and was applied across key brand touchpoints.
Retail Design Cues: Fun, energetic, vibrant. A primary goal of the retail division was to create a more relatable experience for younger audiences across key markets, while remaining flexible enough to serve as the primary creative expression of the brand. This was achieved by modernizing the color palette with a more vibrant primary tone, refining overall tonality, introducing lifestyle-focused imagery and treatments for standalone assets, and developing creative direction tailored to resonate with a younger demographic.
Commercial Design Cues: Mature, structured, grid-like. The commercial identity needed to support and complement the retail division while remaining consistent with the broader brand. Targeted at commercial borrowers and a professional audience, the creative direction emphasizes a visual grid-based system, a distinct commercial color palette, differentiated photography treatments, and a more informational approach to layout and hierarchy. This created a more restrained, system-driven identity.
